Hello friends!
We’re excited to start a blog to keep you updated on events and happenings at Homestead! A few of my friends and I will be posting weekly to share the latest news with you—so here’s to the start of something new!
It’s unseasonably warm for February here, so my husband and I took dinner outside tonight with our two little boys. Seated at a table in the gentle breeze, surrounded by bending winter grass, we listened to the bleating of lambs and goats in the nearby fields. Our curly-headed Lucas chattered nonstop, pointing to the moon and marveling at every wonder of eating outdoors, while a soft pink hue bid farewell to the sun as it sank behind the bare winter trees.
It’s a new year, and here at Homestead, we’ve been busy hosting guests, attending friends’ weddings, planning mission trips, preparing to restart the Homestead Weekly market, and more. With so much happening, it was nice to take an evening to sit back and relax with our little ones. One thing I love about living here—we’re NEVER bored, yet there’s always time and priority given to what truly matters, especially spending time with family and those closest to us.
We just wrapped up our annual fair in December and are looking forward to a quieter year on the farm, where my family and I live. We’re giving the fields a seventh-year rest until September, though I know we won’t be short on things to do in the meantime. Personally, I can’t wait to see the draft horses back at work, tilling the fragrant, moist earth, their long tan manes and tails lifting in the wind. More than anything, I look forward to sinking my own fingers into the dirt again. Few things bring me more joy than taking my little boy out to the garden, giving him the chance to grow up as I did—caring for the land, reaping its rewards, and doing it all alongside family and friends.
I look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks—stay tuned!
Helen
