Location
Our workshops are held at the Homestead Heritage Traditional Craft Village, surrounded by our 500-acre working farm nestled on the banks of the Brazos river here in Central Texas. The craft village is approximately
10 miles north of Waco in the small community of Chalk Bluff. Waco is situated halfway between the major cities of Dallas and Austin, which are approximately 100 miles north and south of Waco respectively and are connected by
IH 35, which runs 3 miles east of Homestead Heritage.
Travel and accomodation
Students generally fly into Dallas/Fort Worth airport and rent a car to travel to the school. (See enclosed map for details.) All major hotels and motels are located within ten miles of the school and there are several bed and breakfast accomodations nearby.
Daily Schedule
All workshops begin at 9:00 am sharp. We suggest you arrive at 8:30 a.m. to give yourself time to check-in, register, pay the balance of any fees that may be due and get to your workshop location.
Lunch is available at our Homestead Farms Deli where we serve a variety of wholesome homemade meals.
Skill Levels
Our foundational courses begin with workshops that assume that each student is a beginner. Subsequent more advanced workshops generally have prerequisite workshops that prepare students for the more advanced level workshops.
Cancellation
While we try to adhere to the scheduled dates for each class, on occasion circumstances occur that necessitate our cancelling or rescheduling the date of a class. If we are unable to reschedule a workshop to fit your schedule, we will gladly send you a full refund. If you need to withdraw from a class or transfer to another class for any reason, please call us at (254) 799-1480. If you withdraw from a class more than 30 days before the date of the class, we will refund any deposits we received. If you give less than a 30-day notice, we will refund your deposit if we are able to fill your place in the class. There will be a $20.00 non-refundable application fee in either case. If you transfer to another class, there will be a $20.00 transfer fee. We will consider illness and family emergencies to be legitimate exceptions to this policy.
Tools and Materials
Though we provide all the necessary tools and equipment for each workshop, we encourage students to bring their own hand tools if they prefer. Materials are included in the registration fee.
Age Requirements
Since our workshops are specifically designed for adults, an individual must be 18 years old to enroll on his own. Children ages 17 who are well-behaved and respectful of adults may register if one parent enrolls with them in the same workshop.
Dress
All students should wear practical work clothes and shoes. No shorts or sandals please. We provide shop aprons for use during workshops.
Smoking or Consumption of Alcoholic Beverages
Thank you for honoring our community policy of no smoking or consumption of alcoholic beverages.
Baby-Sitting or Child Care
We do not provide baby-sitting or child care services for parents who participate in workshops. No children will be allowed in the workshop area while a parent is taking a class.
Accomodations
Students will find adequate overnight accommodations in local motels and hotels as well as bed and breakfasts. When you register for any of our classes, we will email you a current list of nearby motels and hotels that offer a discount to our students.
